Security Council President for the month of August makes a press statement on attack on UN Peacekeepers in Darfur
An attack on the joint UN-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has been strongly condemned by the Security Council.
One peacekeeper was killed and another injured when unidentified attackers fired at a UNAMID community policing centre in a camp for displaced people in Nyala, South Sudan in the early hours of Sunday.
An assistant read the statement of the President of the Security Council during the month of August, Ambassador Gérard Araud of France.
"The members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the family of the peacekeeper killed in the attack, as well as to the Government of Bangladesh. They called on the Government of Sudan to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. The members of the Security Council reiterated their full support for UNAMID and called on all parties in Darfur to co-operate with the mission." (Duration: 25″)
