OPEC Fund contribution will help mitigate chronic poverty among Palestinians affected by Israeli blockade
The OPEC Fund for International has donated $500,000 to help Palestinian families in Gaza to meet their basic food needs.
The UN's Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), says the money will be used for its emergency food distribution programme in Gaza.
Gail Walker reports
UNRWA says the contribution will be used to meet the basic food needs of more than 28,000 vulnerable families in Gaza.
Many of these families, the agency adds, have lost their livelihoods as a result of the Israeli-imposed blockade of the Gaza Strip.
The agency says the OPEC Fund contribution will help relieve chronic poverty caused by the blockade which has affected as many as 1.6 million Palestinians.
It says as long as the blockade is in place, thousands in Gaza will remain dependent upon humanitarian aid.
