Approximately 18 million people are facing a food and nutrition crisis in West Africa's Sahel region.
Nigeria is one of eight states that form the Sahel region.
Because of its vast size, the impact of drought, malnutrition and disease is threatening devastating consequences, according to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.
