Fighting in the Syrian city of Aleppo has intensified and heavy weapons are being increasingly used, including firing from fighter aircraft on Tuesday, according to United Nations observers there.
The UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) says it is deeply concerned about the heavy fighting in the southeast neighbourhoods of Syria's largest city and commercial hub.
UNSMIS says there has been a significant increase in the level of violence in that part of Aleppo over the past three days.
Sausan Ghosheh is UNSMIS spokesperson in Syria.
"Yesterday at 7:30 local time our observers saw fighter jets firing rockets and canons which are basically heavy machine gun fire at neighbourhoods Aleppo in the southeast part of the city, two areas around Salaheddin and Bab Al-Hadid. We now have confirmed reports that rebels are now in possession of heavy weapons, including tanks in Aleppo."
