Efforts continue to control Ebola outbreak in DR CongoListen /
• Efforts are continuing to control the outbreak of Ebola in a remote area in the north-eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The World Health Organization (WHO) says the highly contagious disease has killed at least nine people, including three health workers. WHO health experts are on the ground to help the government to contain the disease.
UN helps transformation of police in South Sudan
• South Sudan is facing the challenge of building a professional police force. UN Police are helping to transform the South Sudanese National Police Service. A group of 70 police officers recently graduated after a three-week senior leadership seminar and brigadiers' course.
South Sudan assisted by IOM and Japan to manage borders
• The government of Japan has signed an agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for a $5.4 million project to help South Sudan to better manage its borders. The two-year programme will facilitate the building of 16 border posts and construction of an immigration training academy. It will also help in the development of a national training curriculum on border management.
