An historic transformation about to happen in SomaliaListen /
Somalia's political transformation next Monday will be complete, according to Augustine Mahiga, the Secretary-General's Special Representative in Somalia.
Somalia was considered a failed state when the government of Muhammad Siad Barre collapsed in 1991.
The Transitional Federal Government, which comes to an end on 20 August, has been in power since 2004.
Ambassador Mahiga describes what the transformation of Somalia will be.
"By transformation, I mean stabilization of a country, new leadership, new plan, new ideology, new institutions and a direction towards greater democracy in Somalia. With the adoption of a provisional constitution, there is an opportunity for the next government to build the state from what it used to be – a failed state – which means a non-functioning state.” (Duration: 26")
