WHO calls for renewed focus on family planning

Family planning

The World Health Organization pledged on Wednesday to improve family planning and health services for women in the world's poorest countries by 2020.

At a Family Planning Summit in London, the UN health agency called for a renewed focus on family planning.

Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, said access to modern contraception is a fundamental right of every woman and that women should have a range of family planning options from which to freely choose.

The London Summit pledged to support the rights of some 120 million women and girls in the world’s poorest countries to use contraceptive information, services and supplies, without coercion or discrimination.
