Top UN human rights official urges all parties in Syria to protect civilians

With fighting now taking place in many parts of Syria, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay is strongly urging all sides to make a huge effort to ensure civilians are not killed or injured.

Her spokesman, Rupert Colville, says the conflict in urban areas is obviously especially dangerous to civilians.

"Far too many innocent men, women and children have already been killed injured, and a million displaced. So it's s a very, very worrying situation and we really urge all combatants on both sides to take care with the civilians." (Duration: 15″)
