Public Service Day ConcertListen /
The 10th Anniversary of the United Nations Public Service Day and Awards was celebrated recently in the General Assembly Hall. Public Service Day was established by a General Assembly resolution to "celebrate the value and virtue of service to the community."
44 organizations from 29 countries were awarded in recognition for excellence in public service. The event was sponsored by the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
A concert was also held to celebrate the day. Florence "Beng" Poblete-Enriquez prepared excerpts of the concert featuring, among others, classical musician Wang Liang. Mr. Wang is the principal oboist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and has a long list of honours.
