PaperSmart – a war against waste
Listen /Magnus Olafsson declared war against waste when he came up with the business model to implement PaperSmart, a plan that dramatically reduced the use of paper at the Rio+20 conference in Brazil last June.
Of the 40 thousand participants at the June Conference on Sustainable Development, 11 thousand were delegates who normally request thousands of copies in the form of conference information, speeches and news releases.
Implementing PaperSmart saved 19 million sheets of paper whose production would have used about 28 million litres of water, enough to fill 11 Olympic size swimming pools.
Gerry Adams asked Mr Olafsson, who works with management at the United Nations, how the whole idea to conserve on paper got started.
