Hepatitis: "It's closer than you think"
Listen /About a million people die every year from viral hepatitis and approximately half a billion people experience chronic illness from being infected with this disease. Viral hepatitis is also a leading cause of liver cancer and liver cirrhosis.
This Saturday, 28 July, is World Hepatitis Day and the World Health Organization (WHO) is advising governments to help fight this disease.
Mamadou Alpha Diallo spoke with Dr. Sylvie Briand from WHO's Pandemic and Epidemic Disease Department about the different types of hepatitis, transmission methods and what the agency is doing about this disease which it says "is closer than you think."
