Development Cooperation Forum opens in New York

The allocation of development finance as well as South-South cooperation and other new forms of partnership are on the agenda of the 2012 Development Cooperation Forum which opened on Thursday.
The two-day forum is an initiative of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), where economic, social and environmental issues are debated.
ECOSOC president Miloš Koterec said one of the goals of the forum is to explore development partnerships that are inclusive, effective and sustainable.
"To this end, we first need to look back to gain a better understanding of the changing landscape of development cooperation and the issues that have shaped where we stand today. We can then heed lessons from our current efforts while developing a clear and realistic consensus on how to better coordinate new sources and modalities of development cooperation."

The Development Cooperation Forum brings together parliamentarians, civil society organizations, local governments and private philanthropic organizations, from developed and developing countries.
In addition to encouraging analysis of development cooperation, the forum also identifies new trends and promotes action based on the experience of numerous stakeholders.
