Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the world that although the Rio+20 forum has ended, the work to bring about a sustainable planet was only just beginning.

Mr. Ban, in his final remarks to the Rio+20 conference, certainly welcomed the 700 voluntary commitments announced at the conference by countries, businesses, development banks, universities and UN agencies to galvanize action on the ground.

The pledges, the largest of which total more than $513 billion, are in areas such as transport, energy, education and job creation. They also include countless volunteer hours.
