Listen /
A series of bombings across Iraq on Wednesday has been described by the top United Nations envoy in the country as "despicable".
More than 80 people are reported to have been killed and nearly 300 others injured in the attacks.
In the capital Baghdad alone, there were ten explosions which killed many Shia pilgrims who were gathering for a religious festival.
Martin Nesirky is the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General.
"Martin Kobler, the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, said that he was deeply shocked and utterly dismayed by the despicable attacks across Iraq today. Those attacks have claimed the lives of scores of Iraqis, including many pilgrims and have injured dozens more. Mr. Kobler urgently appealed to the Government to address the root causes of the violence and terrorism that are causing so much suffering and pain to the Iraqi people." (Duration: 28")
