Rio+20 may have ended, but the work to bring about a sustainable planet was only just beginning, according to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Mr. Ban welcomed the more than 700 voluntary commitments announced at the conference by countries, businesses, development banks, universities and UN agencies, among others, to galvanize action on the ground.
The pledges total more than $513 billion and cover areas such as transport, energy, education and green job creation.
The Secretary-General of the conference, Sha Zukang says Rio+20 was about action.
"The voluntary commitments are a major part of the legacy of this conference. These numerous commitments bring together key actors united behind the same cause: to achieve sustainable development."
