Progress in Rio+20 talks is "somewhat slow"

Negotiations on the final political outcome document for the Rio+20 conference are "locked in nuancing" according to the head of the conference Secretariat.
The document calls for renewed political commitment to sustainable development, including proposals related to the green economy and poverty eradication.
Nikhil Seth, Director of the UN's Division for Sustainable Development, believes diplomats will smooth out their differences before the deadline on Friday.
"I think the major problem is that progress is somewhat slow; that they are not rapidly coming to a closure on many of these paragraphs. But the process of refining the paragraphs, bringing in more complex nuances and perspectives: that always delays negotiations, and, unfortunately, we've got locked in that nuancing at this present juncture." (Duration: 21")
The document is expected to be endorsed by more than 130 heads of state at Rio+20, which opens on Wednesday next week.
