Nearly 50,000 people in Mexico have been killed over the past six years, victims of the drug violence in the country.

The latest incident occurred this weekend with the discovery of 49 mutilated bodies in a region near the border with the United States. While the victims have not yet been identified, media reports say this was the fourth massacre in a month.

Dianne Penn spoke to Christof  Heyns, UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions, who is concerned that the situation could become ever more difficult to control.
