UN agencies launch appeal as Mali refugee crisis deteriorates
Listen /Two United Nations agencies have launched a joint emergency operation to help thousands of people displaced by conflict and insecurity in northern Mali.
The World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) are providing food and shelter to the people who are located both inside and outside the country.
It's estimated that more than 500,000 people have been displaced, with over 300,000 seeking refuge in neighbouring countries including Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Niger.
To find out more about this situation, Patrick Maigua in Geneva sat down with WFP spokesperson Elizabeth Byers.
