The World Bank is helping Tanzania establish a safety net programme to improve the lives of 15 million people, over half of whom are women.

Through cash for work projects and other programmes, people are earning money to support their families while rebuilding their communities.

Nearly half of Tanzania's population lives below the poverty line and the Social Action Fund protects poor, young and vulnerable people against financial shocks.

Georges Collinet of the World Bank reports.
