UN agency launches interactive website to improve information-sharing

An interactive website to support cooperation among developing countries has been launched by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The website was launched on Wednesday as government officials gathered in New York for the session of the UN High-Level Committee on South-South Cooperation.

UNEP Deputy Executive Director Amina Mohamed says that online fora, social networks and similar media play an important role in enhancing transparency and information sharing.

"To that end, I am pleased to be here today to launch our new South-South Cooperation Exchange Mechanism, the first online portal of its kind dedicated to facilitating information exchange, to facilitating developing networks of practitioners and serving as a clearing house for news, for events, for case studies, for blogs and for other tools related to south-south cooperation in the environmental sector." (Duration: 26")

People and institutions working on environmental issues in developing countries are invited to submit content to the database and share their expertise and experiences with peers.
