The General Assembly on Monday paid tribute to the late President of Malawi, Bingu Wa Mutharika, who died earlier this month.

He said Africa will remember President Mutharika "as a true nationalist" who was devoted to the progress of his country and continent.

"Building on the remarkable success of the national food security policy in Malawi, he laid down a roadmap for Africa towards food security and sustainability in particular. Throughout his entire life, President Mutharika has advocated the legitimacy of economic independence for the developing countries and for African countries in particular."
