UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for calm and a peaceful resolution of the political crisis in Mali following the reported announcement by rebel soldiers that they have seized control of the country

According to media reports, rebel troops appeared on Malian state television to announce the military coup and said that a curfew was in force and the constitution had been suspended.

The mutiny that reportedly occurred on Wednesday also involved an attack on the presidential palace.
