March 25, 2012 will be observed as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

In this series of programmes produced in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish, UN Radio honours the memories of the millions of people who have suffered and died because of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, their struggles for freedom, what legacies remain and the lessons that could or should heave been learned.

Dr. Maria del Carmen Barcia is a Professor Emeritus of Havana University. She is a scholar of slavery in Cuba.

She comments on the historical distortion that afficts the stories of African slaves and need to better inform new generations about the subject. (Programme in Spanish)
