Overcoming the Disaster: Gratitude from Japan to the World

Japan is hosting a series of free concerts to express its gratitude for the support it got following the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The first concert organized by Japan's mission to the UN along with the Japan Foundation in New York takes place at UN headquarters on Monday evening.

The concert features Wakumizu Kagura, a traditional folk performance group from the Tohoku region affected by the disaster, and Ondekoza, a professional Japanese taiko drumming troupe.

Performers also include some of the best of Japan's contemporary musicians.

Organizers say they are also dedicating the concerts to all victims of disasters and conflicts around the world.
