ITU Summit in Doha to close digital divide in Arab region

Over 600 world leaders are meeting in Doha for the Connect Arab Summit organized by the UN's telecommunications agency or ITU.

The aim is to map out policies and strategies to help close the digital divide in the region.

Jocelyne Sambira reports.

Top level representatives from several Arab countries as well as some of the world's leading information and communication technology (ICT) companies are taking part in a UN-led initiative organized by ITU.

The overall objective of the "Connect Arab Summit" is to mobilize the human, financial and technical resources required to expand ICT infrastructure, connectivity and access.

The Summit also offers a venue for leaders from the public and private sectors as well as international and regional financing and development agencies to network face-to-face and forge new partnerships.
