UN nuclear experts denied access to military site in Iran

IAEA and Iran

United Nations nuclear experts have returned from a two-day mission to Iran without having visited a military site they had hoped to see.

A team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been in the country for two days as part of efforts to verify that the country is not developing nuclear weapons.

The team requested access to the military site at Parchin but the authorities did not grant them permission to visit the site.

The head of the IAEA, Yukiyo Amano says it is "disappointing" that Iran did not accept the agency's request to visit Parchin adding that the IAEA engaged in constructive spirit but no agreement was reached.

The agency was denied permission to visit the site during its earlier mission to Iran at the end of January.
