Togo takes over presidency of Security Council

• Togo has taken over the presidency of the Security Council. Its ambassador to the UN says he will do everything he can to make sure a positive solution is found to the ongoing conflict in Syria. He says the Council will also debate the impact of organized crime in West Africa and the Sahel region.

• Local food producers in Ghana are doing their bit to reduce the West African country's reliance on food imports. Ghana currently spends over $1 billion each year on food imports. Now entrepreneurs are realizing there is a market for locally grown produce, a market which is not only profitable but which also creates employment.

Cancer is emerging problem public health problem in Africa

• Cancer is a an emerging public health problem in Africa, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The agency says cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. WHO estimates that without intervention 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015.
