International community must stop Syria: UN General Assembly President

Listen /

Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser

The UN General Assembly President expressed his deep concern over the situation in Syria at a Human Rights Council urgent debate taking place in Geneva.

Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser once again called on the Syrian authorities to immediately end the killings and halt all human rights violations. He also says the international community must increase its mobilization.

"This is the time for acting as one to face this crisis and to end it with the least loss possible. This is the moment that we shall unite to save lives."

Earlier this month the General-Assembly overwhelmingly voted in favour of a resolution calling for an end to the violence in Syria. More than 130 of the UN's 193 member states voted yes, although the General Assembly vote is not legally binding.
