Leaders from the West and Africa attending a conference on Somalia in London are discussing how to bring peace to the country.

The country has not had a central government for over two decades and Al-Shabaab insurgents remain a serious threat to the region.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging the international community to help Somalis restore stability in their country.

Mr. Ban has called for steps to improve security, advance the political process and provide assistance for economic recovery, reconstruction and development in the Horn of Africa country.

"We have a space for peace and stability in Somalia. It is a small space but it presents an opportunity we cannot miss, an opportunity to help people of Somalia and end the threat and instability."
