UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in the country for a work visit on Sunday.

Angola has had ten years of peace and stability.

According to Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the country has travelled a remarkable distance since the dark days of a prolonged and devastating conflict.

The UN chief said his visit to Angola is a sign of the deepening partnership between the United Nations and the African country.

He commended Angola for its active participation in the United Nations through peace-building in Guinea-Bissau, and providing logistical assistance during the Democratic Republic of Congo's recent elections.

The country still faces many challenges, he added, promising the United Nations' help to further consolidate peace in Angola.
