UN staff member captured in Yemen now safe
A UN employee who had been held hostage in Yemen for two weeks has been released.
The staff member, a 34-year-old man from Norway, arrived at a UN safe haven in the capital, Sana’a, on Friday.
UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky said the man is in good health and is receiving medical examinations and psychological counselling.
The Governance Team Leader with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) had been held captive since 15 January.
He will recuperate in his home country before returning to work.
