History of UN told in interviews

Flags of Member States fly in front of the United Nations Headquarters building.

An archive of interviews with some of the personalities behind crucial moments in UN history is now available online.

The Oral History Collection Website features nearly 200 interviews recorded over the past 25 years with former UN Secretary-Generals, diplomats, journalists, and others who witnessed events ranging from the founding of the United Nations to conflicts the organization has monitored.

Most of the interviews were conducted by Jim Sutterlin, a former head of UN Political Affairs who has taught at Yale University; and Jean Krasno, who lectures at both Yale and the City University of New York. They are also the authors of a 2003 book on the United Nations and Iraq.

Prior to the website's launch in New York on Thursday, Dianne Penn sat down with Mr. Sutterlin and Ms. Krasno.
