UN disarmament forum in danger of becoming irrelevant
Listen /For years now, the UN Conference on disarmament has not produced any results and many states have become despondent.
That’s according to Sergio Duarte, the UN’s High Representative for Disarmament affairs.
The nuclear disarmament forum seeks to strengthen the rule of law in the field of disarmament.
The 65 member states have agreed on a few key points, but also disagree over the forum’s priorities and lack the will to break the impasse.
Monica Villela Grayley spoke to Mr. Duarte about some of the progress achieved by the forum but also reflected on the stumbling blocks.
