UN chief calls for continued support to Haiti
Listen /The international community has been urged to continue providing what has been described as "vital" support to Haiti two years after an earthquake struck the country.
The call has come from United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the second anniversary of the disaster in the Caribbean island.
Charles Appel reports.
Over 200,000 people died in the quake which devastated Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world.
1.5 million Haitians lost their homes; over 500,000 are still living in camps for displaced people.
On Thursday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon honoured the memory of the dead, including 102 United Nations personnel.
Mr. Ban paid tribute to the Government and people of Haiti who, he said, have made important strides in rebuilding their country.
Haiti is also grappling with a cholera epidemic that has claimed the lives of nearly 7,000 people.
