UN boosts security in Kenyan refugee camp
Listen /• The Kenyan police are being assisted by the United Nations to boost security in the Dadaab camp for Somali refugees in north-eastern Kenya. The UN refugee agency, UNHCR says there's a climate of fear in the camp following the killing of a Somali refugee leader last month. Dadaab currently shelters over 460,000 mainly Somali refugees.
Rehabilitating victims of torture in Africa
• Victims of torture in Africa get help from a care centre in western Senegal. The African Centre for the Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts was established in 2001. It allows the victims to confront their past and move on with their lives.
Bringing the bank to people in South Africa
• A banking company called WIZZIT has committed itself to provide personal loans to 10,000 people in South Africa. It's taking part in the Business Call to Action, a global initiative that encourages private sector efforts to fight poverty. The initiative is supported by several international organizations including the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
