"Stop killing your own people", Ban tells Syrian President.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

United Nations Secretary-General is calling on Syrian President Assad to stop killing his own people.

He delivered the message at a conference in Beirut on reforms and transitions to democracy in the Arab world.

Mr. Ban told the gathering that the wave of uprisings across North Africa and the Middle East sparked by Tunisia's revolution will never dim.

He warned that the old order of one-man rule and what he called the perpetuation of dynasties was crumbling.

"President Assad of Syria: Stop the violence. Stop killing your own people. The path of repression is a dead end".
