North Korea, a “humanitarian basket case”

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the country, Marzuki Darusman has just finished a visit to nearby Japan…he wasn't allowed into North Korea or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as it's officially known. Patrick Maigua asked Mr Darusman if change is underway.
Calligraphy catches on
Calligraphy is a widely practiced and revered form of art. Also known as brush calligraphy or Shu Fa, it is unique to Asian cultures. As part of the Chinese New Year, the United Nations held an exhibit in New York to showcase the different creative designs. Beng Poblete-Enriquez reports.
Fijians set for "full enjoyment of fundamental human rights"
The people of Fiji are set for the "full enjoyment of fundamental human rights" according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. It follows the lifting of the Public Emergency Regulations on the Pacific island which restricted the right to public meetings and a free media. Human Rights Commissioner, Navi Pillay welcomed the cancellation of the emergency law and encouraged the Government to fully respect human rights. Patrick Maigua asked the Commissioner's spokesperson, Rupert Colville, for more details.
