National reconciliation is "the most important factor" to guarantee political stability in Libya, according to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Ban Ki-moon spoke to reporters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during the Summit of the African Union on Monday.

He said he had an in-depth discussion with the Prime Minister of Libya.

"What I emphasized is that to resolve all the pending issues and source of tension between and among peoples through dialogue, to promote reconciliation, reconciliation is the most important factor which will guarantee their political stability, their development and wellbeing."

Mr. Ban said the UN Support Mission in Libya will continue to work very closely with the Libyan people and authorities to achieve that goal.
