Refugee camp in Mogadishu

A bomb exploded at a feeding centre in the Somali capital Mogadishu following a visit by a group of UN officials and journalists.

Initial reports say 7 people were killed, according to Ari Gaitanis of the UN's humanitarian agency, OCHA.

The visit marks six months since a famine was declared in parts of Somalia on July 20.

Ari Gaitanis had been at the centre earlier.

“In terms of the visiting journalists and UN staff, we fortunately had already left by then. Unfortunately, it did kill 7 people so far it seems. But these I should say are part of a daily life here in Mogadishu. You know, it is part of daily challenges to put it mildly that humanitarians face in doing their jobs, as well as part of a daily challenge that the residents, people who live here have to face as well."
