Bird flu claims lives in China and Egypt

Avian flu

Two people have died in China and Egypt of bird flu or avian influenza.

The Chinese Ministry of Health informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of a 39 year-old male from Guangdong Province who developed symptoms on 21 December.

He was admitted to a hospital and died on 31 December.

In Egypt, the Ministry of Health and Population said a 42-year old man from was infected with the virus.

He developed symptoms on 16 December and died in hospital six days later.

In total, according to WHO, bird flu has claimed 27 lives in China and 55 in Egypt.
