•The world needs to create 600 million new jobs over the next decade, according to the International Labour Organization. In its latest report on global employment trends, the ILO says Africa has had high economic growth rates over the years. However, it adds, that has not created quality jobs.

Four Kenyans to face trial at Hague for crimes against humanity

•Four Kenyans are to face trial before the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. The four include Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto who hope to run in presidential election this year. The senior officials are alleged to bear the heaviest responsibility for the 2008 post election violence in which over 1,500 people were killed and thousands displaced.

A referendum on status of Abyei in Sudan still on hold

•The status of the oil-rich Abyei region of Sudan remains to be determined in a referendum. That was initially to have taken place in January alongside the referendum on South Sudan but did not happen. Sudan's Ambassador to the UN blames South Sudan for the delay.
