The World Food Programme has condemned the killing of three aid workers on Friday morning in central Somalia while on duty.

WFP has temporarily suspended its operations in the area while the case is being investigated.

Jocelyne Sambira reports.

A gunman in central Somalia has shot dead three aid workers, including two World Food Programme employees.

The attack took place on Friday in Mataban and Hiiran province in central Somalia, according to WFP.

The aid workers were on a mission in the area to monitor a general food distribution as well as camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

WFP has been distributing food to malnourished children badly affected by this year's Horn of Africa drought.

The agency has condemned the killings and has temporarily suspended its operations while an investigation is launched.
