The Sahel region of Africa is on the verge of a major crisis that will affect around one million children according to UNICEF, the UN Children's Fund.

Eight countries in the Sahel are showing signs that children are on the verge of severe, life-threatening malnutrition, says David Gressly, UNICEF Regional Director for Western Central Africa.

He told Gerry Adams that because of a lack of rain, the crisis is expected to hit within weeks.
