Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser

The government of Syria must abide by an agreement it has signed with the Arab League to stop killing its people.

Speaking at an end-of-the-year press conference, the President of the General Assembly Ambassador Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser said the body is active in galvanizing international support for changes happening in the Arab world.

Ambassador Al-Nasser was asked if he would be willing to visit Syria as part of the efforts to end the nine-month-old crackdown on demonstrations there.

"I don't have (a) problem to visit Syria. I would be happy to visit but first of all we want to see that the Syrian government will stop the violence and killing of their people and also to comply with their commitment after signing the agreement with the Arab League. As you know there will be now a team going to Syria to see how much the Syrians are serious about this commitment."
