• Relief aid to Somali refugees in the world's largest Dadaab refugee camp in north-eastern Kenya is being disrupted by security incidents. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) says that there were two explosions this week. One person died and two police officers were serious injured in the blasts

• The first troops from Djibouti have joined the African Union’s peacekeeping force in Somalia AMISOM. Their arrival has given a boost to the 10,000-strong AMISOM. Meanwhile, conflict and drought continue to force Somalis into exile. Many are crossing into Djibouti where they live in overcrowded refugee camps.

Life sentences for two Rwandans tried on genocide crimes

• Two senior members of Rwanda's former ruling party have been sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the Rwandan genocide of 1994. The UN tribunal for Rwanda ruled that they were part of a “joint criminal enterprise” to exterminate Tutsis. Around 800,000 people, mainly Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in the genocide.
