Death toll rises follows Philippines floods

More than 140,000 people were affected when Tropical Storm Washi struck the southern island of Mindanao.

The death toll following flash floods in the south of the Philippines has risen to over 850 people.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction council says an unknown number of people are still missing.

The floods were triggered by a tropical storm.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has been assisting the council.

OCHA's Agnes Palacio is in the flood zone on the southern island of Mindanao.
