rice fields in Asia

African countries like Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Mali are partnering with China to share its hybrid rice technology to grow more food.

The sharing of this technology is one of the projects being showcased at the South-South Development Expo at the Food and Agriculture headquarters in Rome.

Organized every year by the United Nations, representatives from developing countries meet to share success stories and development solutions.

This year's focus is on food security.

Professor Fuming Liao, Assistant Director-General for the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Centre, talks about the different approaches used to transfer such technology.

"The first important factor is manpower. So personal training is very important. So every year, the Chinese government also funded the training courses on this hybrid technology. We also demonstrated this technology in those countries and let them know how high yield you can achieve. And through this way also we can let them know what to do-learning by doing."
