For years, developing countries have been denied the right to exchange material, equipment and technology to develop biological and chemical agents for peaceful purposes.

That's what the Iranian Ambassador to the UN, Mohammed Rez Sajjadi said to delegates attending a Biological Weapons Convention or BWC in Geneva on Wednesday.

The global conference is held every five years to review the progress made in banning biological and toxic weapons.

Iran ratified the disarmament pact in 1975, being among the first 20 governments to do so, said Ambassador Rez Sajjadi.

"This review conference should address these unjustified restrictions posed against a state party in contravention with the provisions of the convention. We believe that there is an urgent need for the establishment of a mechanism on article 10."

Duration: 15''

Article 10 of the BWC allows states to facilitate the exchange of equipment, materials and information for the use of biological agents and toxins for peaceful purposes.
