UN seeks peaceful elections in Democratic Republic of the Congo

Electoral Campaign in the DRC

Ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo's elections scheduled for November 28, political parties and their followers are being asked to avoid incidents of poll-related violence.

This is the second set of democratic elections to take place in the country since 2006.

The main challenge, according to the UN spokesman in the country, is to have a peaceful election.

Madnodje Mounoubai, spokesman for MONUSCO, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the country, told Gerry Adams that unfortunately, some violence has already occurred.
