The Office of the UN Human Rights Council told reporters Friday that a special session on Syria could take place soon.

The special session will follow next week's publication of a report by the Independent Commission of Inquiry that looks into alleged human rights abuses in Syria.

The Inquiry was established by the UN Human Rights Council in the wake of a report by a UN fact-finding mission, which documented numerous human rights violations during the Syrian Government's bloody crackdown on dissent.

Investigators have been barred entry into Syria forcing the Commission to monitor abuses from neighbouring countries.

Rolando Gomez, is the Spokesperson for the Human Rights Council.

"The Council has requested that the commission of enquiries submit a report. That report is being finalized now, the three person commission is finalizing the report there currently here in Geneva, and we expect that to come out in the coming days, perhaps within a week. Thereafter there is a possibility about there being a special session, but there is a fairly good likelihood there will be one shortly there after."  Duration: 22″
